The Gardens of the Righteous - Riyadus-Saalihin Free Download

The Gardens of the Righteous (رياض الصالحين), pronounced Riyadh as-Salihin in the original Arabic, is a compilation of verses from the Qur'an and hadith by Al-Nawawi.
The author is Abu Zakaria Muhiy ad-Din Yahya Ibn Sharaf al-Nawawi (1233–1277) (Arabic: أبو زكريا يحيى بن شرف النووي‎), popularly known as al-Nawawi, an-Nawawi or Imam Nawawii (631–676 A.H./1234–1277)

Abu Zakaria Muhiy ad-Din Yahya Ibn Sharaf al-Nawawi had no academic or scholarly atmosphere and there were no religious academies or institutes where one could earn excellence in religious learning, so his father took him to Damascus, which was considered the center of learning and scholarship, and the students from far and wide gathered there for schooling. During that period, there were more than three hundred institutes, colleges and universities in Damascus. Imam Nawawi joined Madrasah Rawahiyah which was affiliated with the Ummvi University. The founder and patron of this Madrasah was a trader named Zakiuddin Abul-Qassim who was known as Ibn Rawahah. Madrasah was named after him. Noted and eminent teachers of the period taught in that Madrasah. Imam Nawawi says, "I studied in this institution for two years. During my stay in Madrasah Rawahiyah, I never had complete rest and lived on the limited food supplied by the institution." As a routine he used to sleep very little at night. When it became irresistible as a human being, he would lean and slumber for a while against the support of books. After a short duration he would again be hard at his scholastic pursuits.

Fiqh-us-Sunnah was written by Sayyid Saabiq (1915-2000 C.E.), may Allaah have mercy on him.  Saabiq's most famous book, Fiqh-us-Sunnah, was the three-volume Fiqh As-Sunnah, which in the first writing of its kind brought the four major madhahib together, in a comprehensive treatment of Fiqh matters. The book has since been translated into dozens of languages and is used by Muslims throughout the world. Saabiq wrote Fiqh As-Sunnah in the 1940s when he was only 30 years old. He wrote the book at the request of Ustadh Hassan al-Banna, the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood. Every Fiqh ruling in the book goes back to the Qur'an and Sunnah and Saabiq dealt with all four madhaahib objectively, with no preferential treatment to any. Saabiq also wrote another book, "Islamic Theology," along the same lines: simplification and avoidance of overphilosophization or getting involved in disputes on arcane topics. Besides his academic work, Saabiq was a noted Islamic activist.

Sayyid Saabiq was born in 1915 in the Egyptian village, Istanha. He received his education at Al-Azhar and after his graduation worked as the Director of Mosques and Islamic Education in the Egyptian Islamic Affairs Ministry. He also taught at Al-Azhar, and later moved to Saudi Arabia, where he headed the Shari'a Graduate Studies Department in Ummul-Quraa University. After moving back to Egypt, he spent years teaching students in a Mosque in Cairo.

After writing Fiqh As-Sunnah, Sayyid Saabiq spent some time fighting along with the Mujahideen in Palestine in the late 1940's and he later visited most countries in the world and lectured in their mosques. He was the first graduate of Azhar to visit the Soviet Union and check on the conditions of Muslims there.

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Islam

The book seeks to be a basic overview of a variety of subjects in Islam such as
the nature of God, the life of Prophet Muhammad, the Qur'an, the Five Pillars, and its political and cultural history. The book takes on its subject in a more informal light and basic English without a lot of detail and does manage to cover many subjects in this single volume. It was particularly enlightening to learn that Islam actually shares many virtues and ideas that are common in Judaism and Christianity such as honesty and charity.
